Hi everbody,

I bought a few (brand less) USB sticks at dhgate.com from a seller calling himself 'Hjdty'. Big mistake in hindsight but here I am with some USB sticks that aren't functioning properly. They are also very slow.

They are supposed to be 16Gb USB2.0. Thing is that I am seemingly able to copy 16Gb on the stick. It is just when I read it back my Windows gives me all sorts of errors. I tried h2tesw 1.4 as well and it confirms it; data is corrupted.

I opened up the USB stick and took a picture of the internals:

Chip Genius v3.00 / Chip Database Rev. 2010-11-30 gives me the following information:

PnP Device ID: VID = 058F PID = 9380
Serial Number: 6&&9255129&&0&&3
Revision: 7.76

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

Chip Vendor: Alcor
Chip Part-Number: AU6983

Product Vendor: (N/A)
Product Model: (N/A)

I've read somewhere that there are basically 4 grades of chips available. Grade A and B are good quality chips used for brands and OEM. Grade C is not so dandy at all. Grade D is basically electronic waste that should have been destroyed but ends up in some real cheap&cheesy hardware.

My fear is that my USB sticks are equipped with those grade D chips but I'd like your input on this.
My questions:

Can you give me some useful tips/hints on the chips used?
Are the used chips legit and can I get their specs somewhere?
Can I track the serial number somewhere?
Is there anything I can do about this, e.g. reporting the seller somewhere?
    Anything else worth knowing?

I appreciate any feedback you can give me.
Thanks in advance,
